Zusammenfassung:

Though flash memory is around since decades it has just recently become more popular in production environments as reliability and price point now make it attractive for enterprise use. Solid State Disks (SSDs) are the most obvious form factor, but there are others around. Given that SSDs are still not 1:1 replacements for HDDs technologies are needed to integrate them transparently as a new tier into the storage hierarchy, e.g. in hybrid storage pools with Sun's ZFS. After an overview of flash memory and SSD technologies this talk will present some use cases, including specific use cases in the context of HPC and Grids.
